Heath Ledger Scholarship Goes To Australian Actor!

Listen, Heath was great and all, but seriously…… Can we move on? 9/11 didn’t get this downtime news reportage. Hopefully it’ll all die down after this Sunday, when Heath’s daughter toddles off with his Oscar. I can’t imagine what might happen if he doesn’t win, something akin to the Rodney King riots, I imagine, but much more photogenic cos it’ll have famous people smashing stuff with gold statues.

But in the meantime we have to endure some more rose-tinted “news”, in the shape that the inaugural Heath Ledger Scholarship was presented to its winner last night. Set up Heath’s friends Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts and Michelle Williams among others, the prize was given to Oliver Ackland, presented by Ned Kelly director Gregor Jordan, who had this to say about the recipient:

“Ackland is a great actor and he’s really likeable. He’s got a sort of Jude Law look. Maybe he’s an Aussie Jude Law, who knows?”

The most boring quote of all time? Probably. So in search of some actually interesting news, I did a little check up on Mister Ackland. He’s been in Home And Away, other t.v. shows, as well as several movies, including the Oscar-nommed The Proposition. Now, it was my understanding that these scholarships would be more helpful to those will skill but can’t get a foot in the door. And maybe if you look a bit like Philip Seymour Hoffman or Paul Giamatti. Not this guy, who looks eff all like Jude Law, by the way:

Why can’t he just suck off the casting couch guy like everyone else in the film industry and leave the scholarships to the truly hideous?
